Hi, Does anyone with some technical knowledge know of a web hosting service that can host 1000 videos ?

   What everyone seems to forget, is that if you run a video site like youtube, your server will need to be able to convert your videos to .flv format on the fly. Therefor you want to be looking for a host that supports ffmpeg! Not many hosts support this because of the high CPU-usage it can cause. I would look into http://www.radixhosting.com/ from my experience they have servers with ffmpeg at no extra charge. And you can upgrade your plans as you grow.

   it will handle small amounts of bandwidth and low streaming quality, but nothing on the major side. if you get up to thousands or tens of thousands i would recommend building your own server with a T1 line, but that idea is way out there. just sign up for a domain from 1and1 or GoDaddy.

   Hi, I was like you except I needed hosting for a Flash Game site. I found out that many hosts wouldn’t sell me hosting because of the amount of bandwidth or something to do with my games… This may also happen to you because of all the videos so I reccomend that you visit www.TeraByteWebSolutions.co.uk as I found that they let you have a free trial of the hosting allowing me to play around with some of the features.     To start such a website you will need to consider 3 major factors 1) storage space
    2) peaks handling (simultaneous visitors)
    3) traffic

    The traffic is the smaller and cheaper of these to decentralize and resolve.

    What has been proposed so far are hosting plans which will require a large investment upfront and are really hard to expand.

    I would consider partnering with some company that does already have CDN, provides white labeling and provides and API to interface with them. http://www.streamingvideoprovider.co.uk is one of the few providing that. You can get substantial discounts on a project like that too.
